I just read this thread and I for one, would have been one of those who would have changed my flying pattern to better my chances at SE.
Here is the scenario, was sitting at about 65k Q and had 4 trips to NY for the late fall (after sept 11). Didn't think that I would make SE, so i went for a huge premium bonus miles program with Cathay and AA and managed over 100k miles with just four flights flying F.
I would have reconsidered had I felt I could have made SE and subsequently, AC would have been the proud recipient of about $20k of my hard earned money (I own the company I work for!).
