I don't carry my Credential either and like you, if they wouldn't permit me to aid help, I would go back to my seat and ask for a jack and coke. But then again, its very easy to verify people credential with the internet.

In my recent from NRT-BKK, a pax in 1st class collapsed twice (as I was told by the FA). The FA asked for my credential when I responded for help, which I don't carry it. Had he told me u could not help because the lack of it, I would directly go back to my seat without any hesitation. In the end, I had to write my license number on the documentation.
