The Westin Grand is newer and the staff is remarkably friendly (from valet to front desk at all hours of the day). Not much in the immediate neighborhood but if you have a car, fairly easily accessible to areas you would want to go.
Upgraded room with the option to get an even larger suite by paying a nominal amount $20-30 a night (we passed). I forget why they had this option. Suite was definitely on the small side but up-to-date. Hallways are quite narrow.
In my opinion, the Pan Pacific is a much nicer hotel with more stunning views of the waterfront. The rooms are much smaller but the service is top-notch and there are a some very nice common areas. Closer to Stanley Park and the surrounding areas. More of a business traveler's hotel.
Both stays were from a trip in the late summer of this year.
