I've noticed this, too. But it isn't my biggest word-crutch annoyance trigger, though. All too often, I hear a GA, FA, or captain announce: "I'd LIKE to welcome you all aboard," or "UA would LIKE to be the first to welcome you to xxx." As if something is stopping them from doing so.

My devious brain always completes the sentence for them:

"We'd LIKE to welcome you aboard ... but we just can't!"

or (more malevolently)

"UA would LIKE to welcome you to xxx ... but we just aren't going to!"
