Can I cross the Swiss/Italian Border on foot?
I'm doing a mileage run to Lugano this weekend and need to stay overnight. As hotels in Lugano are really expensive, I'm considering getting the train to Ponte Tresa and staying in a hotel just over the Italian border in Lavena Ponte Tresa. According to Google Maps, it's only a 600 metre walk but I want to check whether I can cross the border on foot.
I know when I lived in Northern Spain, I could walk into France no problem so I assume it's the same in Switzerland now that they are in Schengen.
Does anyone have any experience of this border crossing or know whether it is fine to cross the Swiss-Italian border on foot?
All advice gratefully accepted.
Thanks!
