Some final notes on my stay at this property. The lax service was again repeated at checkout. I had called before noon to book my transportation to the airport. But, when I arrived at the front desk to check-out, I found out that I had no car service arranged… (???) I guess I lucked out because they happened to have a car available for immediate hire, but I found this rather disturbing.
To top things off, I had to call the bell captain twice before then came up to get my bags, and at the front desk they didn’t have their computers operational, so I had to leave behind an imprint of my credit card for them to bill me later. Of course, I could not see the details of my bill before giving my card for imprint… and now that I think of it, I didn’t even sign the voucher, so I wonder how they are going charge my account. Yes, the signature may be trivial in the US or elsewhere, but it seems like credit card companies in SA are very strict regarding signatures of credit card imprints… (those of us that have bought RTW’s ex-SA from outside the country know). In any event, I guess I can sign the voucher sometime in late March when I again stay here on my return leg of this RTW.
Overall, and despite the shortcomings mentioned regarding the timeliness of the service, this property still is a viable option if you want to get SPG stay credit. And the rates you are getting online are not bad either… perhaps I have to check out how much the Sandton costs. In any event, my next 2003 RTW will probably take me to Cape Town. Does any body have hotel recommendations there…???
