Catering, though... well, if CX gets away with F seats/J catering on HKG-DPS, a longer route, I'm not sure you should have high expectations for things like Royal First Meal or Dom. DPS is still a small outstation for TG- one flight a day, compared to someplace like HKG.
I think you are missing something: CX does not 'get away' with anything. They just have Y/C to DPS and the pax who fly and sit in the F cabin get a free seat upgrade. A nice perk usually reserved for people on a longhaul F Ticket or OW/Marco Polo Premium Customers.
In opposite here, TG who actively sells First Class on this route. They advertise the Royal First Meal Selection as a perk of First Class. I agree in the case of Phuket/HKT where they fly a 747 and don't sell First - same thing as with CX: If I get upgraded to the F seats that is nice because I don't pay for it. But there is no F Service either - just the seat.
