My friend works for Delta and is entitled to lots of great travel perks. She flies for free (1st class, standby) and gets 8 F&F vouchers each year. Nice!

When her husband died, she inherited 800k miles from his business travel. She never travels on revenue tix so rarely has Delta activity ...assumes these miles are eligible for the no exp policy.

She has no idea how to use these miles (a nice problem to have I know) and I can't advise her.

I'm unclear if these miles can be used for awards and upgrades on all SkyTeam partners or if they entitle her to "status" on SkyTeam partners. Is the RTW ticket the best use of this kind of mileage is she doesn't need it for biz travel?

She is also thinking of giving these miles to her two college kids (400k each). Are there any drawbacks to doing that?

Advice is appreciated. Looking forward to FTU in April so I have a better understanding of this world.
