I agree that's worded somewhat unusually.
Flying Blue has always had a single, standard qualification year and a single status period. To start issuing cards with different validity periods matched to the varying dates on the competitor cards would be a huge structural change and wouldn't fit with the whole qualification/status period of the existing program. All reported matchees have indicated a match until next year (ie March 2012) anyway.
