From my experience, meal services usually starts from the front of the economy cabin and the crew works his/her way down the aisle.

Having said that, there are usually two sets of crew serving each aisle so the passengers at the rear economy cabin do not have to wait too long to get their meal.

As for snack bars, these are only available on the longer intercontinental flights, such as those to Europe and North America.
