Aeroplan Redemption and Awards: General Thoughts?

Hi,

I would like to get opinion from everyone on Aeroplan and award redemption on both AC and Star Alliance partners.

I'm currently UA 1P but am thinking about switching my frequent flyer program to either Aeroplan (or Dividend Miles) to maximize the value of RDM.

UA redemption is significantly higher than Aeroplan for where I would like to go with my family (wife, 2 kids--2 and 4). Specifically, I plan to use Aeroplan to redeem award travel to Asia (Japan, China, HK, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore), South Pacific (Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Tahiti) and Europe only. No plans for domestic redemption or other continents like South America or Africa. This will, of course, be over the course of many years!

Looking at the award chart, Aeroplan seems to be the best value so I was wondering if I can get an opinion on general award availability to these areas for both high and low peak seasons. Now here's the kicker:

I want to book 4 C class award tickets each time we plan a trip--is this even remotely possible for award flights for any FFP?? At worse, I would settle for 4 Y tickets.

I read on some threads that certain programs seem to get better awards, like Aeroplan for instance!

Thanks for any insight
