A few days of such consumption is unlikely to have any major effects. In fact, medical studies of survivors after the two A bombs showed no significant impact of radiation that was greater than found elsewhere on the island. Same goes for residents around Las Vegas and the testing grounds.

Before we knew better (supposedly) everyone wore watches that glowed in the dark for years. Not many hands fell off arms because of this radiation. No if the Japanese are going to die from cancer in huge numbers, it will not be from radiation it will be from smoking!

The major reason to fear visiting Tokyo and the east at the moment are the ongoing earthquakes. But if travel does fall off, I'll certainly be looking at a trip this summer when base fares drop to about $300 return as my SE qualifying flights! Visit a friend in Tokyo, then hop a train to Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto for the balance of my trip on more solid ground.
