Originates/Terminates at South Station. 1st stop/2nd to last stop is always back bay.

Only issue can be a seat if you are headed out of town at a busy time period...

And, yes, it will be safe, there will be plenty of people around. There may be a couple of panhandlers, but they should not bother you for the 1 minute walk.
