I stayed there last week. If you are Platinum and are looking for an upgrade to the best available room, don't count on it. They will typically upgrade you to one level above your booked room type. So, if you book a room with single bed and a street view, you would get a room with a single bed and a garden view. They would then say that there are no rooms left with double or king bed to upgrade you to. However, when you check the Starwood reservation site, you can easily book any type of room you wish. As I was not spending a lot of time in the room, I decided not pursue further discussion.
In terms of atmosphere, this hotel reminds me a lot of a typical "W" hotel. It is hip and trendy. The hotel restaurant is nice, food is excellent and pricey. If you book a room rate that does not include breakfast, a buffet breakfast costs 36 Euro (but it has a nice selection).
I would recommend the Westin Palace over this hotel any time. They are more appreciative of Platinum members. Price wise, it is in the same range.
