Unless BA are carefully, I fear they'll start causing brand-confusion amongst their customers.
If/when they do introduce BoB, I really hope its in addition to the current service, at least for long-haul flights. If they try to remove the current food/drink offering from LGW, then I believe it would be disingenuous to suggest that BA is still a premium airline.
For me, the minimum service levels in a BoB model should be:
- Domestic: Free coffee/tea/soft drinks + snack (biscuit/crisps) with BoB for additional food and alcoholic drinks
- Short-haul Economy: As per domestic
- Short-haul Premium: As per economy but with the current meal and free alcoholic drinks
- Long-haul Economy: As per current service, including free alcoholic drinks, but with the option to purchase additional food. Perhaps make some alcoholic drink a premium offering, such as non-standard wines, champagne or premium spirits.
- Long-haul Premium: As per current service, no change, everything should be included
I guess the biggest threat will be to long-haul flights. If they start degrading the standard service, then I would seriously start looking at alternatives.
