If someone was upgraded when flying on their birthday, then there'd probably be several people upgraded on each A380 or 747 flight just for that.

If I owned an airline, you wouldn't be upgraded on your birthday, even though this does sound lovely. A free glass of champers though - sure, that at least should be allowed, together with an announcement over the speaker-system, so the whole lot of passengers can sing happy birthday to you!
