The problem with the Marriott VISA card is it only offers 1 point per dollar on most purchases (2 for dining/travel; 5 for Marriott stays), and 1 Marriott point is worth less than 3 HHonors points no matter how you slice it. If you primarily stay at Marriott properties, it is worth getting the card for the 5 points/$.

Mr_right has a good idea to get a 2% cashback card as well as the Marriott card. I would throw in the HHonors AMEX as well and use that for places where you get 6 points/$ as that is somewhat better than 2%.
