Thanks all for the great advice. I agree now that I shouldn't have problems getting it out, but as Flys2much points out, the problem MAY be upon arrival in Russia (Moscow). I haven't had any issues with Russian customs in the last 10 years, but wouldn't want to set off any red flags, so it's off to El Dorado or M.Video or OBI or Castorama (Moscow electronics and home renovation chains) to get my next smoke detector!
