Perhaps others can confirm this independently, but it came as a bit of a shock to me that AA would forego the opportunity to poach business from a competitor.

I'm not the world's biggest account, but I do generate well over 100K miles annually to parts of the world that are just getting additional attention (used to be that Delta/Aeroflot were the only carriers to Moscow from the USA, but now UA, AA, Singapore and Transaero carry as well).

I was looking forward to having an option other than SkyTeam.
