Also, as a matter of fact, I did call Delta on the plane as soon as they announced we would be deplaning, but they said they couldn't do anything because my status was "boarded." Thought a live person would be able to override it, but of course she was just as stumped.

Incidentally, when I checked DL.com the next day and checked the flight status, it showed as departing on time (2:00 PM) but the arrival time was after 11:00 PM (scheduled around 4:00), so it sounds like there were still problems for those who re-boarded.
