I wished they have a renewal bonus or throw canadians some bones when it is renewal time.

I am on my last week of the Canadian SPG AMEX before I need to cancel due to the annual fee and supplementary card fee. I am switching to their AMEX Gold card with the fee waived and the welcome bonus.

It seems there is a stretegy for AMEX to get SPG members into the door with the SPG AMEX card, then channel them to the AMEX GOLD (while ditching the SPG AMEX) after the first year through the use of "new" welcome bonus, annual fee waived and other perks.

In other threads, I notice AMEX will waive annual renewal fee for the Gold card - but not with the SPG AMEX card.
