YES and NO

No-when your itinerary is on CX and CX only

YES- if you have an itinerary which involves CX and another carrier.
my personal experience has been when my father (CX DM) and I flew on a ticket with a BA connection. one of our luggage was over 32kg and the nice check-in agent very apologetically explained to us that BA has a strict guideline to have checked-in luggage weighing no more than 32kg and so we had to swift some items to our other luggage
