Sorry guys, this was a rant posted right after the situation, and I thought as a travel community you would like to know - whether it was right or not, that it happened.
I travel 300 days a year, and did not mean to come off like a close minded American. I've been to over 30 countries and I hate a lot of things about the "American overseas" mentality, so now I feel bad that I came off that way.
I only said that b/c we flew into Japan on United, and fly back to the states on United - and i know that all of our bags will be free on United.
As a travel community who helps each other though, will someone please clarify to the best of their knowledge if I was over charged? Their website says the overage weight we had should have cost $110, which is in line with most all airlines too. Not $1,200. It says nothing even close to the amount I was charged.
Can anyone verify? Link below:

& yes, you're right - buying a 7th seat on the plane or going with a different airline would have saved the whole hassle.
