As much as it adds to weight and hassle, I've switched to hard cases after having a driver broken in a good quality soft case. It's sustained a broken handle and some deep scuffs and scrapes but the clubs are always intact.
The weight is one thing - as I'm pretty consistantly at 48 with at least two boxes of ammo in it, but my case breaks into three pieces that nest together. The clamshell hard cases just don't fit into smaller cars - which is a major PITA. Scrapes and gouges like yours, but the clubs always get there
