** Very good at both places, although pricey. I liked having the option of going to Ubud and not being "stuck" at the resort. In Ubud there is a place called Dirty Duck which was quite tasty. Just outside Amandari (an easy walk) is a warung (local restaurant) called Nasi Ayam that has very good satay and chicken with rice - super cheap too....
The warungs tend to have great food priced for locals, so $10 buys a banquet. "Nasi Ayam" means rice with fried chicken, so presumably their chicken is a specialty; it can be really good in Bali, as all the chicken is free range
Ubud has a great restaurant in Cafe des Artistes, a strange blend of Belgian, western and Indonesian food, including superb steaks -- better than Aman food quality, imho. Lots of other good restaurants in Ubud, some more famous, but none as good. In Seminyak Sardine is noteworthy for western seafood.
