I haven't stayed there, but the Westin St. Louis is relatively new and had some decent reviews when it opened. Apparently it can be had at a decent rate (try AAA among other rates.)

If they want to stay in Clayton, forget *wood, the Ritz Carlton is super. (I know, that won't get them a night.)
