I highly recommend that you call and get re-booked. If the situation in Japan worsens, flights leaving NRT will begin to fill up.
I was scheduled to fly SIN-NRT-SFO-BOS on 3/27. I got rebooked SIN-NRT-IAD-BOS, with a sizeable layover in IAD due to lack of availability on the IAD-BOS sector.
I would have had an even longer layover in ORD, had I rebooked SIN-NRT-ORD-BOS. Also, NRT-ORD had the highest load factor of all the NRT-USA flights.
If the 27th rolls around and UA852 is operating, I'll try to switch back to my original routing.

If it's bumped, I know i'd most likely lose my upgrade, but would award seats be okay to transfer to the earlier flight?
The moment 852 is canceled, call. If you have a confirmed F seat (award ticket) and UA cancels your flight (ie not due to ATC or WX), they are obliged to re-book you in a confirmed F seat. If there is no inventory available, the reservation agent will call the support desk and they will open up inventory for you.
If there is no F seats available for sale (ie all seats are taken by other customers) the above does not apply.
