I really enjoy the self check-in. No waiting, and only the odd machine not working but there is always several spare. Contrast this with trying to fly domestic anywhere without such machines when you can spend upwards of 30 minutes waiting in line. I know which option I would rather have. You can experience the personal touch when you get to the lounge.

What plane were you on? Security is only required on planes carrying more than a certain number of people (around 75-100 I think) due to the cost/benefit of having the security screening in place. Thus, flying on one of Air NZ's turbo-props does not require you to go through security.
