I just flew NZ for the first time. SYD-AKL-CHC-ZQN. I thought the domestic checkin experience at AKL was easy, very well organized, and best of all fast! I wish more carriers would utilize a system like this; I'm sure they will if it cuts labor costs further!

Side note: Really enjoyed Air NZ for my first trip. SYD to AKL was originally a 767, but subbed to 772. Great seats, and a fantastic crew, food was among the top airline food I have experienced.

Question: Flew AKL-CHC-ZQN. On the AKL CHC sector, went thru security and flew flight. Arriving CHC, stepped outside to smoke (no lectures please, and reentered airport, went straight to gate, never had to clear security! Just curious as to why if anyone can tell me....
