CX bought the rights from the the company that originally designed the seats. The seats have been very popular with other airlines that are contracted with the same designs notably Virgin , Air New Zealand, Jet Airways and Air Canada.
this has always amazed me why those that FLY AC seem to love the "same" seats which were only "slightly", although IMO not at all, better than CX's. for the record, i hate both when flying with my family.
