Not looking to extend beyond Hawaii or The Caribbean. Important qualities include a nice room, nice pools, not too crowded (but not something completely private) and access to good restaurants. Good service is great but I want a really pretty, tropical-looking resort even more so.
We were originally thinking about Maui and all reviews seemed to indicate Four Seasons Maui was the top place however I've seen some reviews indicating it's on the small side, the adult pool is impossible to get a lounge at if you're not an early riser, and the non-ocenfront rooms can have pretty crappy views. I then saw many references to the Four Seasons Kona and it certainly looks great (although not necessarily "amazing" based on the pools, beach, and some of the pictures I've seen) but at it's price I'd have to split the time between the two. I'm just wondering if there's anything else I should be considering that could be considered as nice or nicer than those two resorts without traveling further than Hawaii. So basically what other resorts would be considered in the same class as the FS Hualalai? Any suggestions for other places to consider would be appreciated.
By nearly every ranking and source, FS Hualalai is the top ranked resort property in north america, the carribean and ranks highly worldwide. It sounds like exactly what you are looking for. If you do so, I reccomend that you book with a Virtuoso agent like

luxury or others on this board.
