I do not approve this behaviour, but I can understand why the concept of honor bar in EL has driven people to behave this way.

Wherever I travelled in the world, in Marriott's or competitor's lounges, liquors were free of charge in EL, with the sole exception of the USA (I haven't travelled in every single country of the globe, so correct me if I am wrong). And this makes sense as Executive rooms are marketed as some sort of all-inclusive rates (breakfast, snacks, internet, use of fax or printer, aso...). So why are just the liquors not included ? It seems to me as weird as if there were a slip on the breakfast tables for just the muffins, that would be charged extra to the complimentary (or say included) breakfast...

I took Marriott's Honor Bar in particular detestation for two bad experiences I had :

- The first was my first time in a lounge in the USA (St Louis, MO) : I honestly didn't know about the Honor Bar principle, was used to the complimentary drinks in EL, and served myself a few glasses of wine before leaving the lounge without filling the slip. I would have understood an explanation from the concierge, but instead, he filled the slip himself, estimating my consumption. And not only he charged my room without my consent (which I did not appreciate), his estimate was double of reality ! Discovering that the next morning at checkout, I insisted for paying nothing (eventhough I agreed I had some drinks, I thought paying would be endorsing such a system),

- For the second one (San Francisco, CA), I was by then aware of the slip and picked one to charge the beer I had taken from the bar. And I really felt cheated when I discovered that the bottle of beer would be charged $7 in EL, while it costs only $5 at the lobby bar. I am not crying for $2 but I'd like to know what is the benefits of paying an extra for an executive room if the benefit that comes with it is the right to pay for your beer more than the regular price ??

So I leave it to anyone's karma to fill the form or not, but I am not going to blame someone who has already paid for executive lounge access for not willing to pay (sometimes overpriced) again extra for something that would come for free elsewhere...
