well, it is all in the past now, and I hope it will not happen next month when I fly to Tallinn and Riga. Thank you all for confirming it is a rare occurrence

It was all one ticket and she did not take it from my hand. I stated I was flying business class on Air France and she told us that only Delta Sky Club members were welcome. I thought it was strange, but arguing with a desk clerk is no way to start a nice trip.

I would value the difference in comfort in the lounge versus the terminal more than the 5,000 miles.

Here is what I got from customer service:

Thank you for your e-mail describing your recent experience with Delta.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your taking the time to share the details.

I am sorry to hear of your experience at the Portland Sky Club lounge.
You should have been allowed access to the club based on your BusinessElite ticket as well as being a Gold Delta SkyMiles cardholder.
Please accept our apology for this service failure. I have added 5,000 bonus miles to your account today. I know it doesn't make up for your inconvenience in Portland but I wanted you to know that we appreciate your business.

We value the relationship you have with Delta Air Lines and would be delighted to have another chance to restore your trust and confidence in our service.
