Whenever I fly 75Es or 767s, my preferred seat is actually 1D/1A respectively. If it looks good for the UG, I politely approach the GA and ask if they wouldn't mind assigning me a particular seat if open.

I've even had agents in the Sky Club call down and get the seat released and hand me a boarding pass (JFK T2, LAX, SFO).
