Yeah, it seems like it's safe enough (although I think it's still a good idea to get rid of the island platform). Once you know it's the narrowest platform in the system, however, sometimes it can feel really narrow, especially when the only way to make it to the far end of the platform during rush hour is to walk in the space people would occupy to board a southbound service. Ducking and dodging passengers getting off the southbound trains, etc. At least there's really nothing to be confused about entering and leaving the station!
I'm not entirely sure there'd be space at that station to expand the tunnel like they did at Angel (although there's a small section of the abandoned 'express' Northern Line through Clapham, so maybe...)
