One detail that's being overlooked here (and, I'll admit, I tend to "overlook" this myself, but that's another matter):

The Terms of Service we all have to agree to when purchasing internet access at hotel usually states that the purchase is good for one device only. By using a travel router to "fool" the system into thinking there's only one computer connected, we are technically violating the TOS.
