I remember some chatter here a little while back that singled out DEN as the weakest hub domestically from a profitability standpoint -- largely because it, alone among all hubs, serves principally domestic traffic, and has particularly fierce LCC competition.
I fly out of DEN, routinely to Asia. Full planes to the SFO or LAX hub and see the same people on my flights to NRT or HKG or PEK. Not so sure DEN is so weak. It is a central hub, feeder to coasts. Not unlike DL salt lake city. Conceivable CLE has some issues. But EWR-IAD-ORD-DEN-LAX-SFO is a pretty strong link up. Not to mention tourism/mountains/skiing destination for people from all over the world. Hard to see it shut down IMHO. Full flights everywhere I fly.
