I know of at least 2 hotels where this has happened.
1 in Oxford,UK. I had to ring to get the 72 hour Plat guaranteed room, and got it. When I checked in, the Manager said that whoever checks in last that day would have to be walked, as they will be 100% fully booked.
2 - The IC in Austin,TX. I booked a standard room, and ended up getting one of their top suites (something like a 4 or 5 room upgrade). The reason was because they had overbooked. Just by chance, when I checked in, there was a family of 4 ranting at the desk about having a confirmed reservation yet there wasn't any rooms left.
Not a good situation when a hotel is overbooked.. My guess is that it would be the hotel's responsibility to make sure that the party overbooked would get a room elsewhere.. often the overbooked hotel paying for the booking because of the inconvenience. Does this practice happen with Priority Club hotels?
