I don't think it was related to the construction. We didn't wander down the beach at all, but it looked pretty consistent with what you see in the picture. The sand was well groomed and pretty clean. They are still working on the area between the pools and the beach, so the final product may look a bit different in a few weeks. That being said, I didn't find the beach area very appealing either.
