I have been charged several times at some Starwoods as a hotel guest. I am a Platinum; however, in some locations (Sheraton Lisbon comes to mind) I have been charged daily fees for gym usage. In Lisbon, those fees were so inflated and the front desk people refused to allow this Platinum perk through. There were a few other locations that this happened to me last year, I cant remember where else but sure that this was in Europe.
Is this perk only free for Platinums in North American hotels?</font>
You can be charged if the hotel does not own the facilities. The Terms and Condiitions say, "3. Complimentary access to the
hotel's health club/gym during your stay." Please note, it does not say access to the spa facilities, so that would be up to the hotel to decide. Spa services will definitely incur an extra charge, where applicable.
