There is no attached shopping mall - but there are numerous small shops and bars and restaurants within a short stroll (but I can see how you might think that driving past).
Maybe it won't feel as 'exclusive' as FS or the Datai, but they have both disappointed me (although I havn't seen the FS for a long time).
Datai felt a bit tired when I went for a lunch last year. However, if money was no object (I feel Datai & FS Langkawi are not great in that respect) I personally would be staying at the Datai.
There is no Langkawi hotel that quite ticks all the boxes for me! (yet!)
If have been to the Datai three times over the last 13 years and found the property, rooms and public places in mint condition, esp. the renovated areas like villas, the beach club and main dining room during my last stay last October. At 217,- EUR per night per Superior Villa I consider this a bargain for such a luxe property.
During that stay I did a site inspection of the FS as well with bar visit, dinner and room/villa inspection and I hope to be able to write a more thorough report/comparison about both resorts in the appropriate thread sometime soon.
