Nice idea re the credit card! Unfortunately I don't think I'd have enough time to go through that process, as I intend to be there in about 6 weeks time. Nice thinking though

True! There just seems to be quite a pattern of latin american countries having local sites with much better prices, so I figured it was worth a try

Having thought about it a bit more, though, GUA-FLR is clearly such a touristed route, it would make sense that they would price gouge. Not too many locals wanting to fly that way, I guess!

I've booked some flights on TACA Honduras there (Tegucigalpa to Roatan) and they are usually $50-$100 cheaper for the same exact flights taca.com is selling on those regional flights. The only difference will be that the ticket is issued by the operating carrier (Aviateca, Isleņa, etc) and doesn't have a TA-202 ticket number.
I did have a look on there, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to allow you to book Guatemala flights on there.
