We used to travel to BKK annually to visit hubbys family. Last time we stayed there was 2 years ago (pre-uprising) and we loved it. This is not your typical HI. While it is not the IC, they share some of the same amenities, like the biz center and pool and we wandered back and forth freely. Room was spotless and comfortable for two. With the Skytrain literally outside your door, it makes a very good home base. Quiet, civilized, affordable place to stay in the craziness that is Bangkok.

The Manager at the time Ms. Manop, was outstanding. He had been the GM at the Intercontinental and his 5* experience is evident at this hotel. Ate breakfast at the hotel once and went to a dinner buffet one evening. It was fine, and service was very good.

And no, the hotel was not full of back-packers, Sukhumvit is about a mile and don't know about upgrades, as we were not Platimum at that time.
