Workarounds for lack of baggage trolleys
Many times over the last few years, I've arrived with my family at an airport abroad for our main summer holiday and there have been no baggage trolleys or some other restriction. For example, BGI has no baggage trolleys, only porters. At GIB, our hire car was a very short walk across the border in Spain, and GIB won't let its trolleys go out of the airport, let alone into another country. A number of European airports have had no trolleys available airside when we arrived because of bad management. Not only that, but there is a growing trend at UK airports to charge for baggage trolleys, although this hasn't fortunately spread yet to the likes of LHR and LGW. As we usually fly business or first and make use of our additional baggage allowance, we usually have more baggage than we can physically carry, so the lack of baggage trolleys causes quite a problem.
To work around this, does anyone have any ingenious methods to pull along more baggage than one could normally carry? I'm thinking of something like joining together the baggage so it can be pulled along as a kind of long baggage train. We mainly have large 4-wheel Samonsite suitcases and 2-wheel Samonsite regulation-size cabin baggage.
