If that's the case, I'll really even more encourage the OP to talk to his wife about taking the train. The drive might not only be long and uncomfortable for her without a bathroom, but also they might miss the plane.
Maybe move the timeline to see Edison National Park to the morning and leave much earlier for JFK if indeed the OP wants to drive.
