Some hotels may be amenable to allowing for early check-in, and that may work out better than day rates. Not guaranteed to work out always (unless the specific property's own employees agree to it), but I've had it work well enough that is what I would do when it comes to a variety of Hyatt markets even when a hotel had not explicitly agreed, prior to arrival at the property, to allow for early check-in.
