Unfortunately, it may just be a "feeling". Eagle had its fair share of tragic accidents back in the 90's. Fatal airline accidents are "rare events" in statistical terminology and it's hard to say when one airline is "safer" than others.
True, but dont forget that pre-1997 there were several independent carriers that flew under the American Eagle brand name. In 1997 the carriers were united under one company and contract as a wholly-owned subsidiary of AMR. Since then the safety record has been excellent...knock on wood.
