I think most of us saw this coming with the addition of Baggage Fees. However, much of this could be avoided if an allowed size of carry on was defined and then ENFORCED. Watching the occasional traveler shove their 32 inch bag into the x-ray machine at Security by sitting on the belt and pushing with both feet makes me nuts. Not that it's a long drive for me to get there.
