Is there any kind of extra security/immigration they have to go thru? I have a group of friends travelling this Friday CDG>ZRH>ORD all on Swiss metal - they have a 40 minute connection. Was wondering if they'd have any trouble making it (some are US citizens, some are not).

40 minutes is pushing it a bit, as they'll need to get from A Concourse (where the Paris Flight lands) to E Concourse (for the Chicago Flight) via the Heidi Train, whilst passing through the Schengen-exit passport Check, as well as the TSA mandated extra Security screening for US Bound Flights.
You may well find that Swiss puts on a car to expedite transfer straight from the arriving airbridge to E Concourse, bypassing the main Terminal.
