Once the miles are accumulated, it is likely that Red Cross decides how to use it and will work with Aeroplan for redemption. From my perspective, I would never donate miles for any cause because I don't know what the mile is actually
worth to a charity. Do they get full value for those miles, or do they get the "sure you can have YVR-NRT that day for 600,000" message that most of us get when we can't be super-flexible.
Miles are not currency, and the rules by which the donated miles will be used are either not clear, ad hoc, or plain hidden from view. No, I'll donate cash instead and make good use of the miles myself instead.
